HOW A PHONEBOOK-RIPPING GRANDPA INSPIRED THIS FITNESS INVENTION
The story behind how this fitness entrepreneur's grandpa inspired his new invention.
HOW THE IDEA STARTED
After getting married, buying a house, working a full-time job and starting his own business, the free time Joe previously had to exercise quickly dissipated. And if that wasn’t enough, he recently became a father.
“I had pockets of free time that were long enough to do a quick workout, but not long enough to drive to the gym, nor worth the hassle. After several workout sessions at home with mediocre products, I came to the realization that I needed a gym-quality exercise without going to the gym,” Joe says.
Joe always had a passion for inventing and designing, so one day he took out a notepad and started scribbling some ideas of what his ideal fitness product would look like. While sketching, Joe recalls a conversation he had with his grandpa as a kid which resonated with him.
“I always looked up to my grandpa especially when it came to fitness. He was able to rip phone books with ease. He explained how I could get a workout by just pulling a towel," Joe recounts.
"I was skeptical at first, but he showed me some exercises and I started mixing this into my workouts. The downside, however, is that there’s no way to increase the difficulty of the workout, and there was no immediate feedback to see if you were pulling it hard enough.”
As Joe thought back to that conversation, he had his eureka moment.
“What if there was a device that had two directions of resistance,” he thought. “One from pulling an exercise bar apart, and the other direction of resistance coming from resistance bands.”
And from that point, the drawings, homemade prototypes, and endless testing led Joe to Tension Toner, which he is now pre-selling on Kickstarter starting August 30th.
Joe says the good news is that you can sign up now and be notified as soon as they launch to take advantage of the limited time deal.
If you're one of the first 200 that order, you can get Tension Toner and the entire set including resistance bands, door anchor, drawstring bag and even a lifetime membership of constantly updated workouts for just $89.
Joe says that the future retail price when it hits the shelves will be $119.95, so getting it now at a 29% discount is a steal.
